Description : Twenty-five figures of mixed description. The figures occupying the top half of the painting bear weapons (machete, clubs or sticks, shields, spears, quivers, arrows) and one of the smaller figures lies down as if dead or wounded; there is a disembodied head with spiked headdress. The figures occupying the bottom half of the painting are unarmed: three figures sit in the bottom left corner and four stand with raised arms (they have large buttocks). There is a patterned bovid in the bottom left hand region of the painting. "Rocks on the Right Bank of the Orange River near the great River Poort on the farm Lichtenstein." [Two joined halves.]

The bulk of the fighting is between figures in blue-grey with red and white markings. The warriors are clearly Bantu, but no oval horizontal shields are known in any recent tribe. The tired ox is fairly certainly by the same artist as the figure in plate 13 [no.87]." (Goodwin)
