Description : Twenty-seven figures of mixed description: some with arms raised, some with sticks, some bending, some painted with white stripes, some leaping, some seated; one crouching figure has something emerging from between its legs; most are facing the large aninmal occupying the right hand side of the painting. There are crossed sticks pictured near the centre. A large unidentifiable animal (possibly a rain-animal) appears right of centre. "The Great Cave of the Elands – Wilge River – Below Harrismith O.F.S."; "G.W.S." [Two joined halves.]

Description in published source : p.33: "1. Cave of Elands, Wilge River, Harrismith, O.F.S. 1/8 lin." "All figures are in red, purple and white. The animal is probably mythical. Two figures (center and top-centre) wear long white aprons. The lowest figures have Zebra stripes. A central figure sits before a small cross. The figure on the extreme right carries a diggingstick with a bored stone on it." (Goodwin)
