Description : Five figures of mixed description: three of which are holding weaponry (one holds a large white spotted shield, another carries a shield and a spear, another is lying prone, another runs into/behind one carrying a club or stick and a shield). Arrows, sticks and spears in the background, some appear airborne. "From Great Cave in the Brakfontein Ridge Koesberg O.F.S."

LOCALITY. – As Plate 36.
SITE. – As Plate 36.
DESCRIPTION – This group and some similar black figures are on a separate slab of rock superimposed on old red. The copy is accurate; pieces of rock have flaked off the right-hand figure.
EXPLANATION – A fight between a Basuto and Zulus, both parties being marked by the shape of their shields. Such fights must often have taken place in this neighbourhood in the wars between 1821 and 1828.
